Ortlieb Back Roller 20L Zip-Pocket Tidura Single Pannier

Keeping your belongings dry, whatever the weather – that is what the Ortlieb Back Roller panniers have been renowned for for many years. This new 20-litre version is made from a sturdy, PVC-free fabric produced by an Ortlieb sister company in Germany. The seams are welded rather than stitched, so there are no needle holes for water to get through.

The bag can easily hold your raincoat, lunch and work gear, or a few days’ worth of shopping. It measures 42 cm high, 32 cm wide and 22 cm deep. The new zipped outer pocket is a handy addition that allows you to store small items such as your phone, keys and wallet separately and grab them quickly without having to open the roll-top closure. You can also store the shoulder strap in there when you are not using it. When you do need it, simply attach it and easily carry the bag into a shop or the office.

This bag is designed for everyday use, whether you are heading to work or school, doing the shops or going out for a leisurely ride. Don’t need an external compartment and a 12.5 kg load capacity? Take a look at the Ortlieb Back Roller Core single pannier, a simpler alternative that also has a 20-litre capacity, but is made of polyester, has a single compartment and is secured using the older Quick-Lock 2.1 system. Its maximum load capacity is 9 kg.

Ortlieb Back Roller QL2.2 is available in black and lavender, a soft, light purple. Both sides feature 3M Scotchlite reflectors that ensure you are clearly visible in the dark.

Sturdy fabric with welded seams

Ortlieb has selected a sturdy, PVC-free fabric for this bag, whose seams are welded together instead of being stitched. This means there is no thread that could absorb water or holes that might start to leak over time. So your belongings stay dry, even after a whole day in the rain.

Waterproof outer pocket with zip

The outer pocket is just as waterproof as the main compartment (IP64), so if you store your phone, keys and wallet in it they stay dry and you can easily grab them, without having to open the roll-top closure.

Quick-Lock 2.2 mounting system

You can adjust the hooks to the tube thickness of your luggage rack in 1 mm increments, without tools, for tubes ranging from 8 to 16 mm. This ensures the bag sits securely and doesn’t rattle. You can remove it with one hand using the handle, so you can easily take the bag with you when you step away from your bike.

Compatible with:

• Rear racks with tubes 8 to 16 mm thick, as found on most city, trekking and electric bikes. The hooks can be adjusted in 1 mm increments without tools.
• Luggage racks with tubes of 18 or 20 mm, provided you replace the hooks with separate 18 or 20 mm QL2.1 hooks from Ortlieb.
• Both the left and right sides of your luggage rack; you choose where to attach the pannier.
• Loads with a total weight up to 12.5 kg.

Not compatible with:

• Luggage racks with 18 or 20 mm tubes fitted with the standard hooks – you will need the separate 18 or 20 mm QL2.1 hooks.
• MIK or KlickFix click plates – this bag has Quick-Lock2.2 hooks that will not click into such adapters.
• Bikes without a luggage rack – the bag attaches to the rack, not the frame.

Not sure? Here’s how to check:

Measure the thickness of the top tube of your luggage rack using a calliper or a tape measure. If it is between 8 and 16 mm, the bag will fit straight away. If the tube is 18 or 20 mm, you will need the QL2.1 hooks in that size. If you have an e-bike whose battery is underneath the rack, check that the hooks can grip the tube freely without coming into contact with the battery.

• Ortlieb QL2.1 hooks (18 or 20 mm) if your luggage rack has tubes of that size.
• A second bag for the other side, or a set from our range of double panniers, if you are travelling with lots of gear.
• A luggage rack with tubes measuring 8 to 16 mm, if your bike doesn’t already have one.

First, adjust the hooks to the thickness of the bike's luggage rack; the system offers 1 mm increments for tubes ranging from 8 to 16 mm. After that, you can click the bag into place in just a few seconds.

Before every ride, check that the bag is securely fastened and that the shoulder strap is not hanging loose.

• Roll up the roll-top at least three times before clicking it shut to ensure the main compartment remains watertight.
• Place heavy items at the bottom and as close as possible to the side of the luggage rack to keep your bike stable and prevent the bag from hanging out too far.
• Not sure if it’s too heavy? Weigh your load and make sure it is under 12.5 kg.
• After parking the bike, take the bag with you; you can carry it easily using the handle or shoulder strap.
